With the unprecedented popularity of social media and smartphones comes another phenomenon: the “selfie”. To those who may not be familiar with the term, “selfie” refers to a self-portrait usually taken using a smartphone or digital camera, and often posted on social networking sites like Facebook and Twitter. Selfies are not always solo shots. In many instances, they are group photos, usually of teenage girls posing with their heads together to fit smaller self-camera frames. This kind of photo has become so commonplace around the world it spawned a story that has spread from California to Russia.
